London Part 2: #Valison23

Nine years later it's time to head back to London for another Southwestern semester abroad. So excited!

Some info about this year's trip:

  • I'll be teaching two courses: Cryptology through the Ages and Women Count!. The first class I did last time I was in London and so I'm excited to do that one again. Women Count! is a new course where we'll be discussing a different British woman mathematician each week. We'll talk about who they are, learn some of the math they worked on, AND we'll be reading Inventing the Mathematician by Sara Hottinger. I'm four chapters in and it's soooo good!
  • My good friend, Val Renegar, from Communication Studies is joining me this time. We'll be sharing the same flat Ed and I lived in 9 years ago. We're so thankful to have such an awesome location from which to base our London lives. As a reminder: it's just a few blocks from the Waterloo station and about 2 blocks south of the Thames. Let us know if you want to come visit!
  • Val and I head to London on August 1 to do some class prep. Michael and his mom will join me on August 9 and we head to Portugal August 10 for a one-week trip. If anyone has favorite Portugal things to do, let us know!
  • Michael will get to be in London with me for most of the trip! Hooray! He'll stay until about mid-September and then be in the States until the end of October. So, really only about one month apart. Excited to live in London with husband. For context: last time I was in London I was single and I met Michael about 2 months after I got back from London.
  • We'll have 22 students from SU joining us and IES (the company that helps organize our program) has a new location in London, so that should be fun.
Enjoy this blog as I chat all about my classes, the yummy food and beverages I find, our travels, and all things London. And, of course...tea. I'll be sure to blog about my tea adventures at least once a month.
